Nebo State School is located 100 kilometres Southwest of Mackay on the Peak Downs Highway, about half way between Mackay and Moranbah. The township services surrounding cattle properties and people who live in and around town. Subsequently the occupations of the townspeople vary from grazier to miner, to council worker. The township is headquarters for Nebo Shire Council, and is also serviced by the police, ambulance and state emergency services, the Nebo Hotel, post office, a general store and a service station. Currently there are various mines operating around the area, with new mines opening regularly. Partnerships and support from local mining companies continues to benefit the school.

Nebo State School has a P&C committee who are an active group of parents and interested citizens committed to supporting and working together with the School Principal and Staff to promote the interests of the school and enhance the learning and social environment.

Nebo School is a part of the Pioneer Valley cluster of schools, as most of our students go on to complete their senior schooling at Mirani State High School. We are also part of the Brigalow Cluster and have associations with Coppabella State School and Valkyrie State School.

Nebo State School caters for children from Kindergarten to year 6 in a multi-age setting. There are currently 78 Students and 11 staff members, including a teaching principal.
